IPO Section Serbia at meeting with Ministry of Interior

On December 1, a working, consultative meeting of representatives of the Police and NGOs was held at the Criminal Police University in Belgrade, which is the main higher education institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.

Representatives of IPO Section Serbia Dejan Pavlovic and Dejan Damnjanovic also attended the working meeting. The topic of the meeting was the proposed draft of the new law on internal affairs. The debate on the new law can be expected in the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia during the spring of 2023.

The topic of this meeting was the objections of certain NGOs regarding the use of cameras for the biometric recognition of persons. The IPO approached this issue with the utmost caution because experiences with this type of video surveillance are full of controversies, especially when it comes to the systems of the Chinese company Huawei.

For this reason, our representatives were very focused on the presentations of the Police representatives, and after additional consultations, we will submit our opinion in writing to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.
