IPO AT THE UN: HISTORIC FOCUS ON DRUG PREVENTION

The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) held thematic discussions on the implementation of international commitments in drug policy. For the first time in history, the entire session was devoted to prevention, highlighting the critical role of preventive measures in public responses to drug use.

In this important event, Prof. Dr. Ilija Životić, founder of the International Police Organization IPO, actively participated, leading the IPO delegation and contributing to discussions on global challenges in combating drug abuse and trafficking.


During the session, key issues were addressed, including the use of psychoactive substances in Europe and the Western Balkans, with a particular focus on the rising use of synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances.


The participation of IPO in this event underscores the organization’s commitment to contributing to international discussions and promoting global cooperation in the fight against drug use and trafficking. The engagement of organizations like IPO, together with partners such as the Italian organization “Dico No Alla Droga”, demonstrates a strong commitment to addressing the global drug crisis through policy dialogue, information sharing, and preventive strategies.


Participants in the event were representatives from various institutions, including law enforcement agencies from multiple countries, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in tackling shared challenges in the field of drugs.
