IPO JOINS NATO TALKS TO BOOST SECURITY WITH SOUTHERN PARTNERS

May 22, 2025 – In the lead-up to the NATO Summit in The Hague, the International Police Organization (IPO) was honored to take part in a high-level session dedicated to enhancing international security cooperation between NATO and its Southern Partners. Representing IPO at this important event was Mr. Imet Cafleshi, President of IPO Switzerland and Permanent Representative of IPO to the United Nations in Geneva.

The session featured critical discussions with Mr. Javier Colomina, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Mediterranean and the South. The talks underscored the urgent need to strengthen the security architecture in the Mediterranean region and beyond, through deeper engagement and inclusive dialogue.

Key Points of Discussion:

1. Equal Role of Southern Partners in Security Dialogue

Mr. Cafleshi emphasized the importance of viewing Southern Partners not merely as recipients of security, but as equal contributors to its development. As a global organization focused on civil-military cooperation and international stability, IPO advocates for inclusive partnerships that reflect shared responsibilities.

2. Linking Humanitarian Security with Strategic Stability

Drawing from IPO’s on-the-ground experience in humanitarian missions, crisis response training, and community engagement, Mr. Cafleshi highlighted that security cannot be achieved by force alone. Education, awareness, and sustained cooperation are essential elements in building lasting peace and stability.

As the international community prepares for the upcoming NATO Summit, IPO reiterates its commitment to serving as a bridge between global security institutions and the communities that seek support, trust, and a hopeful future.

Only through open, inclusive, and sincere dialogue can we build a safer world for all.” – Imet Cafleshi
