Updated: Dec 11, 2022

The President of IPO Section Cameroon, Pierre Bertrand Ngondi, and the Security Coordinator of IPO Section Montenegro Mr. Boris Janković participated in an online meeting of relevant civil society actors on engagement in the UNODC Strategy for Synthetic Drugs held on 8 December.

UNODC (Synthetic Drug Strategy) together with the Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Alliance of NGOs on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice) organized consultations with civil society on engagement on UNODC's synthetic drug strategy with the aim of increasing engagement of civil society in the implementation of the strategy and its improvement.

The meeting served as the beginning of the development of civil society expert groups that will have a consultative role in the implementation, adaptation, and evaluation of the Strategy for Synthetic Drugs. UNODC's synthetic drug strategy focuses on four "spheres of action": multilateralism and international cooperation, early warning of emerging synthetic drug threats, science-based health responses, and counter-narcotics interventions.

The meeting consisted of a presentation of the Strategy on Synthetic Drugs, including possible entry points for civil society, followed by an interactive discussion that addressed the questions: "How can civil society best support the implementation of the Strategy on Synthetic Drugs, and what concrete actions can they take UNODC and civil society groups to strengthen the partnership between them and Member States in the context of the strategy.
