IPO PARTICIPATES IN UN INTERNATIONAL SESSION ON SECURING FUNDING FOR DRUG DEMAND REDUCTION

Representatives of the International Police Organization IPO, registered as a legal entity with Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC since 2022, participated on 25 November 2025 in the international thematic session “Securing Funding for Drug Demand Reduction – From Drug Use Prevention to Social Integration,” organized by the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). IPO was represented by the Executive Director of the Montenegro Section, Momčilo Scekic, and the Secretary General, Boris Jankovic, who joined the event via webinar.

The discussion was moderated by Oriol Esculies from Proyecto Hombre (Spain) and Souraya Frem from CDLL (Lebanon), and featured several international experts. Among them were Jan Peloza from Impact Hub Ljubljana (Slovenia), who addressed financial strategies for long-term sustainability; Dr. Jürgen Rehm from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Canada), who presented alcohol taxation policies; Sandra Blanch from the “la Caixa” Foundation, who spoke about social responsibility in health and prevention; Mari Carmen Sanz from the National Plan on Drugs of the Ministry of Health of Spain, who highlighted the importance of using funds from seized assets; as well as Irina Green from CADCA (USA), who shared examples of multisectoral collaboration and community engagement.
During the session, representatives of various institutions and organizations discussed ways to secure and maintain the resources necessary for reducing drug use at the global level. Particular attention was given to funding strategies, alcohol taxation policies, the use of funds from confiscated assets, strengthening corporate social responsibility, and enhancing multisectoral cooperation.
The International Police Organization continues to follow international developments and apply best practices in the field of drug prevention and the enhancement of community safety worldwide.
