During the session, the IPO delegation engaged with the latest UN updates regarding standardized approaches to addressing drug-related crime. This included detailed discussions on new UNODC standards and international protocols (often referred to as STD standards) that shape global and regional responses to emerging challenges in the field.

The session included country reports from various regions, enabling the IPO delegation to gain valuable insights into diverse modalities and approaches used worldwide in tackling drug-related issues. This exchange of information helped IPO maintain alignment with best practices and identify emerging trends relevant for future strategic development.

One of the most significant highlights was the opportunity for IPO representatives to establish and strengthen contacts with officials from multiple countries, international organizations, and civil society stakeholders. The delegation held meaningful discussions with UN officials and engaged in close cooperation with colleagues from other IPO sections, including IPO France and IPO Italy, as part of a unified presence aimed at enhancing global partnership. These interactions played an essential role in fostering international cooperation and sharing diverse perspectives on global drug policy challenges.

In conclusion, IPO’s participation in the reconvened 68th UNODC session was highly productive. The delegation not only gained crucial insights into international standards and practices but also expanded its network through important partnerships with fellow IPO representatives and international stakeholders.

Additionally, IPO held its own IPO Assembly within the United Nations premises. During this internal session, the organization conducted an extensive operational review for 2025 and established new standards and strategic objectives for entering the first quarter of 2026. This internal meeting was vital for aligning IPO’s future direction with the broader international frameworks discussed during the UNODC session.

The event as a whole underscored the importance of continued cooperation and shared commitment in addressing the complex global challenges related to drugs and crime.
